U16 girls’ top football in Eerikkilä – tournament kicks off tomorrow

There will be another chance to see top youth football when the UEFA Development Tournament for girls under 16 takes place in Eerikkilä from 23-28 May. Belgium, Ireland and Switzerland will visit the Finnish “pikkuhelmarit”.

The matches are the first for the Finnish age group under Aka Okomohi‘s coaching.

“A new page is turning and I can’t wait to start the project with this age group. In the spring we played our first internationals of the year under Pekko Söderström and it’s great to be able to continue the work from a good starting point. We have plenty of time to prepare for the main goal of the year, the U17 European qualifiers, and we need to use that time effectively,” says Okomoh.

The tournament is a great opportunity for players to measure their current level against the top European countries. For the coaching staff, these events are also a special opportunity to talk to coaches from other countries and exchange information and ideas on player development.”

As usual, all matches in the tournament are free of charge. Okomoh hopes that as many people as possible can get to Eerikkilä.

“We have a respectable number of matches in Eerikkilä in both boys and girls’ competitions. In the past, we have had a great turnout of parents, coaches and other football fans. The tournament is another great opportunity to see the future stars and the momentum of international matches on the ground. We promise to provide the crowd with entertaining matches – welcome to cheer us on!”

All football matches are played on the new artificial turf pitch next to the Jari Litmanen Arena. Admission to all matches is free.
