In recognition of our sustainability work, we were awarded both Green Key and Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) re-certification in June 2024.
A Green Key certified destination must meet all mandatory points of the Green Key environmental criteria and report on its sustainability work in its application. The annual renewal programme includes on-site audits, which are carried out annually at the beginning and every three years thereafter. A certified company commits itself to continuously improving the social and economic benefits of its operations and to minimising its environmental impact.
For the tourism industry to meet changing demand and continue to grow, development must be sustainable. To this end, Visit Finland developed the Sustainable Travel Finland programme for tourism businesses and regions and the Sustainable Travel Finland label. Companies awarded the label have taken account of environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability in their operations. The Sustainable Travel Finland label is awarded to a destination that meets the criteria set for the label, and the right to use it is a sign of valuable and long-term work for sustainable tourism. The label reflects the responsibility of the company and the work that is being done to promote sustainability.
For the first time, both Green Key and STF certificates were awarded to Eerikkilä in 2021.
I am glad that you had found numerical indicators for your measures. It’s easy to follow your progress! It was also nice to read how you have promoted cooperation and social well-being through a football tournament for children and youth with special needs.
