Hammarby: “The team and players develop in such events”

12.02.2025

Swedish Hammarby IF participated again in January in an international event in Eerikkilä, this time in the U17 age group. The club’s U16-U19 age group coaching manager Emil Grändås said during the boys’ event that he is happy that the players get tough games right at the beginning of the season.

“The matches have been quite different depending on the opponent. The matches in this event are short, so you have to be ready from the start,” Grändås says.

The event included Finnish teams FC Honka, HJK, Ilves, KäPa, and SPL United, which was composed of players from other teams. In addition to Hammarby, the event also included the Irish team Shamrock Rovers and the Dutch team Vitesse.

“I think our players are quite technical and perhaps pass the ball a bit more actively,” Grändås reflects on the differences between the players.

Overall, according to him, the event has been a positive and useful experience for the team.

“We lack a similar place in Sweden. I believe that such events help both the team and the players to develop.”

You can check the results and statistics of the boys’ event in the Finnish Football Association’s results service. The corresponding girls’ event starts today in Eerikkilä. It includes FC Honka, Ilves, VJS, SPL United, Hammarby IF, Bröndby IF, and IF Brommapojkarna. Matches can be freely watched at the Eerikkilä sports hall.
