The use of physiological data is taken to a new level through this collaboration. The partnership particularly supports the individual development of young athletes and the quality of coaching.
Firstbeat and Eerikkilä have signed a long-term partnership agreement aimed at supporting the training and well-being of athletes and active individuals with physiological data. Eerikkilä is a sports facility that serves as the national training centers for football and floorball in Finland.
The collaboration brings insights into workload, recovery, and performance into both coaching and everyday working life, and particularly supports the individual development of young athletes and the quality of coaching.
Eerikkilä will use Firstbeat’s team sports technology to monitor and develop athletes’ training load, recovery, and fitness. The solution provides coaches with objective data on the effects of training and helps them support athletes’ development holistically, both on and off the field.
Projects with youth national teams
Through the partnership, the use of data will become more systematic and individualized, particularly in the daily lives and coaching of young athletes. Examples of projects already underway at Eerikkilä include the girls’ national football team (born in 2010) preparing for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2027 hosted in Finland, and in floorball with the under-19 boys’ national team. Later, the use of Firstbeat technology will be expanded to support both athlete development and corporate well-being services.
“The goal of the projects now underway is to support players’ development in line with their individual goals and to enable them to reach their full potential in the long term. A wide range of data is collected from players throughout the year and used, together with club coaching, to support their development. Data is collected from training sessions and matches, as well as from what happens outside the field,” says Hannele Forsman-Lampinen, Director of Sport and Education at Eerikkilä.
Important support for young athletes
Joel Wenning from Firstbeat says that the collaboration with Eerikkilä is highly important for them.
“Elite sports are built on progressive and well-managed training load from an early stage. Young athletes are motivated, but their ability to recognize their own limits is still developing. When overall load includes training, school, and social factors, the importance of individualized coaching becomes even more pronounced.”
Wenning adds that scalable solutions are essential for delivering individualized support in a practical and cost-effective way.
“Firstbeat Sports enables simultaneous monitoring of multiple athletes both on-site and remotely and helps identify key physiological responses to balance load and ensure development.”
