The Pathway to Huuhkajat and Helmarit season will conclude in style with international events held at Eerikkilä. Finland’s top club teams will face international opponents, and this year features a record number of foreign participants along with three brand-new clubs.
Age Groups and Participants
Events will be organized for girls in age groups U12, U13, U14, and U16, and for boys in U12, U13, U14, and U17. The number of international teams is higher than ever: seven in boys’ events and six in girls’ events. Among the participants are Vitesse (Netherlands), Hammarby IF (Sweden), Brøndby IF and FC Midtjylland (Denmark), Shamrock Rovers (Ireland), and newcomers SK Brann (Norway), St. Pölten (Austria), and Voetbal Vlaanderen (Belgium).
Finnish Teams and New Features
Domestic participants include the best teams from the Huuhkaja and Helmar Leagues. HJK has the strongest representation with seven events. In addition, United teams will feature selected players from various clubs. A new feature this year: boys’ U12 matches will be played 11v11 on a smaller pitch (90×59 m) to encourage active play and more scoring opportunities.
Goals and Expectations
The events aim to provide players with international experience and enable long-term development tracking. Last year, Finnish U12 boys surprised everyone by taking the top three spots – now we’ll see how they have progressed.
“We have the most exciting lineup ever! Many familiar teams are returning, along with three new clubs from different countries,” says Antti Kekkonen, Head of Football Services at Eerikkilä.
